Workshop Practitioners wanted for Derby Torch Relay Events

Workshop Practitioners wanted for Community Torch Relay Events
Ahead of the Olympic Torch coming to Derby on Friday 29 June, the city's Community Torch Relay project will involve up to 10,000 children. Schools across the city are making their own torches for use in a citywide relay, which will travel through 49 schools and all 17 neighbourhood wards in Derby.

The Community Torch Relay is also hosting free family activities in community centres and parks across the city, encouraging all of Derby's residents to take part in cultural and sporting activities. Activities will take place at:

Sun 10 June      The Big 1 @ Chaddesden Park
Sat 16 June       Arboretum
Sun 17 June      Sinfin
Sat 23 June       Alvaston Park
Sun 24 June      Derby Triathlon, Osmaston Park

Free Torch Making workshops are being offered at all of the above events. We are now inviting artists and practitioners to submit proposals to deliver other creative workshops as part of these weekend events. Workshops should have clear links to the Olympics and/or The Olympic Values, which are:

·         respect – fair play; knowing one’s own limits; and taking care of one’s health and the environment
·         excellence – how to give the best of oneself, on the field of play or in life; taking part; and progressing according to one’s own objectives
·         friendship – how, through sport, to understand each other despite any differences

If you or your organisation are interested in delivering workshops as part of the Community Torch Relay, please email us:
·         A description of your workshop idea, including information about its links to the Olympic themes or values, your experience of delivering previous similar activity and how your workshop would engage different members of Derby's communities
·         A short CV, including details of previous relevant work (including freelance and voluntary work)
·         Confirmation that you hold a current CRB check (no more than three years old) and public liability insurance
·         A budget for a three hour workshop, inclusive of travel and materials; please note that, although we do not have a fixed budget for all workshops, we are aiming to be as efficient as possible and therefore will be taking into account proposed budgets when making our decision
·         Details about the space required to deliver your workshop, including any resources
·         Your availability on the weekend dates listed above.

If you have any further questions or need more information, please contact mike.brown@derby.gov.uk

The closing date for applications is Wednesday 16 May. Please send applications to artsandevents@derby.gov.uk
