Derbys Open Arts event. Special student rate.

As you may know, Derbyshire Open Arts is an annual arts event, held over Spring Bank Holiday week-end, 25th to 27th of May 2013, in which artists and craftspeople open up their studios or exhibit in various venues across the county.

For the first time we are offering a special rate for students to join this event.

Derbyshire Open Arts receives no external funding, so we need to make a charge to cover promotion, advertising and in particular, the brochure.

The charge for students will be £30 (half the usual individual rate), which includes an entry with brief details, and an image, in the brochure and on the website.

Although we do not provide venues – participants need to find their own – we can put artists in touch with venue providers. The venue we would assume be in or on the borders of Derbyshire no such restrictions on participants.

Application forms are online now; visit www.derbyshireopenarts.co.uk

For enquiries or to join our database contact info@derbyshireopenarts.co.uk with contact details. At which point we will give as much assistance as possible.

Brochures are distributed all over the county and beyond; this year over 20,000 visitors came to see our artists’ work. Worth thinking about!

The Residency Brief

FORMAT Festival and Synapse Arts wish to invite emerging artists, photographers and arts practitioners, to submit proposals for a unique opportunity to work with, research and re-contextualise a selection of photographic archives, in particular the collection at The Silk Mill, Derby. The residency will explore the Industrial heritage of Derby and Derbyshire – in relation to FACTORY, the main theme of FORMAT13 – and will aim to provide an opportunity to create work and generate new ideas by using the archives as a basis for the content. This residency opportunity is supported by a £600 bursary, free five month studio space and the use of facilities at Banks’ Mill Studios. The resulting work from the residency will be presented in some form during FORMAT13 Festival (8th March – 7th April 2013). The main theme of FORMAT13 will centre on the FACTORY and mass production. This can be understood literally and creatively in terms of process and the transformation of material, live site of production, the products, workers, analogue process, and documentary and so on. For more info, please visit:http://www.formatfestival.com/theme
