Job description
Are you a green fingered leaf lover who has always wanted to learn more about horticulture? Or have you ever wondered what the best way is to protect bats? Or beaches? Or buildings? Or do you just have the same love for people and places that we do? Our volunteering placements range from conservation, to marketing, to visitor experience and anything in between. We understand that you may need to juggle other responsibilities like studying or paid work whilst you build your valuable skills with us, so we’ll make your internship as flexible as possible. Each one varies in length, and we’ll pay for your travel, and any other reasonable expenses that have been agreed in advance.

An internship is a voluntary role and a great way to gain valuable work experience, especially when you consider the diversity of what we do, not to mention the importance, scope and scale of our work. You’ll be involved in, and even manage, key projects. Real projects too, with real responsibility. We’ll help you to gain a deep understanding of what we do and how we do it. After a thorough induction, and with a manager and mentor to guide you, you’ll work with colleagues from different areas of the Trust – and from different places too. And because we understand how important work experience is to you and your future career, we’ll give you all the support and encouragement you need to develop your skills and make the most of this unique experience.

Person requirements
For one, you’re a creative thinker, always keen to put forward new ideas. Quick and keen to learn, you’ll enjoy working in a team but can also get your head down on your own when needed. We’d also like you to have some experience of planning and delivering projects – and to tight deadlines too. Alongside an interest in history and heritage – an interest you want to develop further – you’re looking to build on your experience of working with the public. You’re confident and outgoing, with strong written and verbal communication skills. You’ll also know your way around a PC, especially MS Word, Excel and Outlook.

Company information
Here at the National Trust, we want even more people to enjoy our extraordinary places, spaces and collections. We want people of all ages and backgrounds to get involved with them, be inspired by them, and love them as much as we do. That’s why we’ve put some bold ambitions in place. We want everyone in England, Wales and Northern Ireland to feel like a member of the National Trust and, by 2020, we want to have grown our membership to more than five million.
