The number of students funded to train as secondary school teachers was cut by more than 2,200 today as the government wiped funding from 14% of the places on courses.

There will now be just 14,555 places on secondary school teacher training courses starting this autumn, compared to 16,845 last year. The number of English, art and music trainee teachers will drop substantially.

The Trend Boutique Launches New Competition

Starting a co-operative in the creative industries

On 23 February, Co-operatives UK are hosting a seminar at the British Library on setting up a co-operative in the creative industries. Designed for freelancers, graduates, practitioners and advisors, this workshop will help you find out about co-operatives, meet potential collaborators, talk to people who’ve been there and done it and get the advice and contacts to get started. Speakers include Alison Coward, formerly of the Enterprise Centre for the Creative Arts at University of the Arts London who now runs her own consultancy and training business to help creative collaborations happen. Free Radio Presentation Course

The Creative Exchange is running a two day Radio Presentation Course on 17 – 18 January 2011, and we have a few funded places available for Derby Residents.


During the course you will learn how to load and drive a professional radio broadcast play-out system, how to choose and operate recording devices and how to edit raw recorded sound material. You will also have the opportunity to present your own unique radio piece. So why not come along and have some fun?

Coming up... the Creative Garden Event in Derby, February 26th 2011

The ‘Creative Garden’ is a networking event and business exhibition which will bring together local creatives and businesses, spanning from students and graduates to established companies and freelancers. The Creative Garden will not only encourage conversations between creatives and businesses, it will also provide an opportunity for the two to connect and build working relationships.

The Creative Garden will be taking place in Derby on Saturday 26th February and in Leicester on Friday 23rd March.
