Derbys Literature Fest Nonsense Competition

Derbyshire Literature Festival Nonsense Competition (deadline: 1-4-12)



Derbyshire Poet Laureate Matt Black launched the Literature Festival 2012’s Nonsense Prose & Poetry Writing Competition on National Poetry Day at his launch event at Alfreton.

Deadline: April Fools' Day 2012



To celebrate Edward Lear's bicentenary in 2012 we're asking you to have a go at writing your own nonsense poem or flash fiction story. Matt Black, Derbyshire Poet Laureate will be judging the competition and he has written a few handy tips on how to write nonsense to get you started.



The winners from each age category will be invited to perform their piece at An Evening of Nonsense with Matt Black which will be taking place during the Literature Festival.

We're already planning the Festival which will take place from Friday 11 May to Sunday 20 May 2012.

Anyone can have a go at either poetry or prose, and the competition is open to all ages, so please take a look at the entry form and information.

Derbyshire Open Arts 2012 on 2, 3, 4 & 5th June 2012

Dear Artist,
We are now accepting applications to take part in Derbyshire Open Arts 2012. The event has been extended to include an extra day on the Jubilee Bank Holiday Tuesday in response to the Artist vote taken after the 2011 event.

Application forms are available online as an interactive form or as a PDF to be downloaded from the Derbyshire Open Arts website (www.derbyshireopenarts.co.uk).

The new Individual subscription fee for 2012 is £60.

What you get for your money: -
· An individual entry in the brochure with an image
· All year coverage on the website which attracted over 20,000 visitors last year.
· As much promotional material as you request including brochures, posters, balloons and A3 laminated signs.
· A ‘Darts’ Guide that assists in all parts of promoting and taking part in the event.
· The brochure has a print run of over 24,000 and is distributed all over Derbyshire and neighboring counties.
· Being part of a successful event that attracted 17,500 visitors and recorded sales of over £80,000 in 2011.

The deadline for completed applications is Friday 13th January 2012. We look forward to welcoming you to take part in our sixth annual event.

Writing East Midlands launches Lincolnshire Echo Short Story Competition and Writer of the Month



Writing East Midlands is thrilled to announce we have teamed up with Lincolnshire Echo to offer you the chance to have your work published in the weekly paper. To coincide with this exciting opportunity we're also launching our Writer of the Month.





Today we begin our search for the best short story writer in the East Midlands.

Every fortnight Lincolnshire Echo will publish a short story chosen by Writing East Midlands, and next year a cash prize of £300 will be awarded to the author of the best piece.



With a readership of 60-100,000, this is a fantastic opportunity to promote your work to a wide audience.

Arts and Learning Co-ordinator for Spring Bank Arts, New Mills
Required for Spring 2012

The Trust that is developing an exciting community arts centre in the former St James Church premises on Spring Bank, New Mills, wishes to appoint a co-ordinator for its arts activities and learning programme, to commence in Spring 2012.

The post will be part time for 18 hours per week for a three year period and is funded by The Heritage Lottery Fund. Payment will be at £8.50 per hour for a 52 week year, with holiday entitlement. Applicants will need to demonstrate experience and knowledge of arts development and knowledge of heritage interpretation.
