A local engineering software company is looking for a graduate Graphic Design student to come and work in house to develop new branding and collateral materials. This will involve anything from setting up new folder and brochure inserts to exhibition graphics. Perfect for those wanting to obtain some commercial experience for their CV and earn some money for the summer holidays!
This is a temporary position for a maximum of two to three months.
For the right graduate candidate, with appropriate skills and desire, there may also be an opportunity of a more permanent role. While graphic design would be about 40% of the work time there would be more emphasis with online and new media marketing.
The role would evolve to incorporate coordination of online and social media resources, responsible for content generation, monitoring, reporting and integration. Assistance with maintaining website architecture/CMS, together with elements of SEO, including blogging, link building and analysis of these and traditional pay per click and onsite SEO. Online campaign planning and implementation for eshots. Potentially some Indesign art working and Adobe® Flash® orientated project creation, together with development of strategies and content/production of online videos.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a Graphic Design graduate to build a portfolio in a commercial environment with an opportunity to expand their skill set in other areas.

We are looking for a technically competent individual to undertake product research, sketch designs, construct prototypes, produce 3D, detailed and specification drawings and complete admin tasks such as registering design protection. There will be opportunities to become involved in other initiatives such as product photography, display and promotion.
You’ll need design flair, accuracy, good time management skills and be able to follow established working methods. Experience using CAD (Autodesk Inventor or similar), Photoshop, Illustrator and Microsoft is required and Adobe Acrobat would be useful. If you have a degree or will qualify this year, in product design or a related subject, in which competency in CAD (Autodesk Inventor or similar) has been achieved, this might just be the opportunity you have been looking for to kick start your career. This is a paid internship initially for a period of up to 12 months, but may lead to a permanent role for the right person.

BBC Pictures Drama Assistant - Creative Marketing Department
We’re looking for a Pictures Drama Assistant to provide essential photographic coverage of some of the BBC’s best loved dramas by identifying and organising photographic shoot schedules based on scripts and production schedules, taking receipt of stills and managing their delivery and editorial compliance via the BBC Pictures website. This role will be split between BBC Elstree Studios and TV Centre. Some days may be spent at BBC Cardiff to cover productions there. Drama production can involve long and unpredictable work patterns and pressure to meet tight schedules and therefore you’ll need to have a flexible approach to your working day. You’ll spend much of your working week in Elstree, away from the central base of BBC Pictures in TVC so will need to work unsupervised on a routine basis.

You should have experience of working on drama productions and the ability to analyse and extract information from drama scripts.   Ideally you will have experience of working with photographers or have a demonstrable passion for photography. You’ll have excellent organisational skills, the ability to prioritise and manage a variable workload, as well as the ability to work under pressure and deal with shifting deadlines.. Given the nature of the work you will be undertaking it is essential that you are able to deal with information that is both confidential and sensitive with discretion. You’ll also need the ability to work independently and within matrixed teams.   Excellent communication skills and interpersonal skills are essential and you’ll need to have good influencing and persuading skills

Self promotion workshop to prepare for Meet the Curator

A training workshop for makers, artists and craftspeopleto help them sell themselves and their work to Galleries, Retailers, Arts Centres and Festivals.  The workshop, whilst a standalone training session - is also linked to Creative Derbyshire’s Meet the Curator event on 17 May at QUAD, Derby to help businesses prepare their pitches and sell their output.
 The workshop will cover the basics about:
  • How to market yourself and your work 
  • Making an approach to a gallery 
  • Other routes to market
  • Ideas on displaying work 
The interactive session will be delivered by Rachael Chambers, Director and owner of Ferrers Gallery, a multi award winning gallery promoting British contemporary craftwww.ferrersgallery.co.uk. Rachael was East Midlands Business Woman of the Year 2008 and is the Contemporary Craft Editor of craft&design Magazine. She is also a member of the selection panel for Design Factory and runs a Marketing for Makers course and a one to one creative business mentoring scheme.

Creative Derbyshire's 'Meet the Curator' brings together curators, buyers, exhibition organisers and programmers with the most exciting emerging creative talent from Derbyshire. This is a unique opportunity for visual artists, makers and craftspeople to talk directly to representatives from local and regional arts organisations, venues, public and commercial galleries, museums, festivals and events to find out about how and where to display, exhibit and sell their work. 

For an artist, making the first approach to a gallery or an arts organisation can be a daunting prospect, which is why Creative Derbyshire is bringing together artists with the people that have the power to promote artists’ work.  We are also putting together a specialist training package prior to the event which will assist artists in preparing for the day as well as giving them useful tips and ideas on how to be considered for exhibitions, sales and commissioning opportunities. 

'Meet the Curator' is an opportunity for artists to drop in and visit a range of stands and speak to arts organisations face to face about what they are looking for and how to get selected for exhibition or sales opportunities.

Workshop Practitioners wanted for Community Torch Relay Events
Ahead of the Olympic Torch coming to Derby on Friday 29 June, the city's Community Torch Relay project will involve up to 10,000 children. Schools across the city are making their own torches for use in a citywide relay, which will travel through 49 schools and all 17 neighbourhood wards in Derby.

The Community Torch Relay is also hosting free family activities in community centres and parks across the city, encouraging all of Derby's residents to take part in cultural and sporting activities. Activities will take place at:
