Two day training course on 7 September and 30 November at Broadway Cinema and Café Bar in Nottingham from 9.30am-4.00pm The Hear by Right Award was launched by the National Youth Agency in 2010 to showcase the achievements of organisations that take youth participation seriously and highlight the contributions of young people. There are three levels – Bronze, Silver and Gold, based on the Top 20 indicators of the recognised Hear by Right standards for youth participation.



Hear by Right helps you follow best practice on the safe, sound and sustainable participation of children and young people in the services and activities they take part in. Developed by the National Youth Agency as part of our programme of work with the Local Government Association, it is applicable to any organisation working with young people, helping you provide evidence of the participation that is already happening in your organisation and then how to plan for improvement where there are gaps. It helps children, young people and adults work together to plan for change. It can be effectively used at both strategic and operational levels across partnerships, departments and single organisations.

Drama Artist and Digital/Graphic Artist to work with a group of 15 young adults for 12 weekly sessions


Erewash Borough Council Arts Development and the Cantelupe Club, Ilkeston are looking for 2 experienced artists to work on a 12 week project with a group of enthusiastic and independent young adults with learning difficulties.



We need: One drama artist and one digital/graphic artist to work with a group of 15 young adults for 12 weekly sessions.



The artists will: Using drama and drawing (can be digital) the artists will help the group

• discuss and consider the dangers of alcohol and smoking

• create a tool kit in the form of a poster & leaflet, giving health advice on alcohol and smoking for other young people with learning difficulties.



When: To work for 12 evenings . One evening a week from January to March 2013.Dates to be arranged by project Steering Group and artists.

Fee: Artists will be freelance with their own Public Liability insurance and have a current CRB check. The fee is £1480 and includes travel. There is a budget for printing and material costs.

Erewash Borough Council’s ‘Festival of Light’; managed by the Arts Development Service is a rolling programme of activities and events celebrating a range of traditional and multi-cultural festivals. Erewash is a small area between the cities of Nottingham and Derby where the Festival of Light has been growing since 2006. Our two market towns are Long Eaton and Ilkeston.



We are seeking a drama artist and a puppeteer for our 12/13 programme to deliver workshops for several of our Festival of Light events between October 2012 and February 2013.

This internship

Swop n Shop is a unique charity clothes swop, craft and vintage fair taking place in October 2012 at Banks Mill, Derby. We are seeking an intern to assist with promoting and marketing the event in the run up to and after the event. Working closely with the local community fundraiser and a small team of volunteers, the intern will be responsible for spreading the word about this amazing event in a variety of ways. You’ll liaise with external contacts including the venue managers and local media, maintain social media sites, and make the most of offline promotion opportunities across Derby and Nottingham.

Applicants will have experience of promoting events, ideally in a fundraising capacity. The role would suit a confident, organised and enthusiastic person with great communication and social media skills, and a sense of humour. Primarily the role will be home based, with some travel and evening/weekend work involved.

Main Duties and Responsibilities



> Promote Swop n Shop through a variety of online and offline channels

> Work with external companies and groups to promote the event e.g. venue managers, local media

> Proactively seek new opportunities to promote the event, including attending networking events

> Attend fortnightly meetings and work with existing volunteer team

The successful applicant will report into Andrea Hadley-Johnson, Exhibition Officer to plan and deliver a high profile exhibition of Bartholomew Beal’s paintings.

Beal has been awarded the prestigious Jonathan Vickers Fine Art Award and will produce a new body of work inspired by the people, landscape and heritage of Derbyshire.



This paid opportunity will involve approximately 10 days work at a rate of £200 per day.



The successful applicant will work in close partnership with the Exhibitions Team at the Museum and Art Gallery, the artist, Derby University and the Derbyshire Community Foundation.

We are looking for a highly organised person with experience of managing creative projects collaboratively.

A minimum of 3 yrs' relevant experience is essential. Experience of working with volunteers is desirable - enthusiasm for helping people to enjoy the arts is essential. The job is home based but with extensive travel and includes occasional evening and weekend work.

As part of its programme of activity, OPUS is offering training for musicians who already work in, or have an interest in working in healthcare settings. Whilst this training will focus primarily on working with hospitalised children and young people, the theoretical background and practice will also be of benefit to those who wish to work with other age groups.



Following the training, there may be opportunities to join OPUS musicians in delivering musical interventions in healthcare settings as part of these residencies or in other programmes of work. We cannot however currently offer any paid work beyond this training.



Training takes place on 25th, 26th, 29th, 30th and 31st October 2012 in Derby, UK. This training programme is subsidised through project funding and as such we require payment of only £75 total for the 5 days of training (payable on acceptance onto the course).

Art exhibition Friar Gate Studio, Derby

Banks Mill Studios has teamed up with Friar Gate Studios to provide local artists with an exciting new platform to showcase and sell their work.




Friar Gate Studios on Ford Street in Derby will be the venue for a series of quarterly art exhibitions to be staged on behalf of the resident artists at Banks Mill on Bridge Street, one of the University of Derby’s four business incubation centres.



A preview showing is taking place on the evening of Friday 31st August between 5.30pm – 8pm. The exhibition will open to the public on Monday 3rd September and will remain open until the end of November, with the next exhibition due to open on Monday 3rd December.



The exhibition will be open from 8.30am – 4.00pm – Monday – Friday and will take place in the Bean Café on the ground floor of the building, where visitors will also be able to enjoy a selection of food and refreshments.
