Déda|Producing is looking for emerging or established dance artists to take on the role of Local Dance Champion for one or more of the performances of Games Time in 2012 (Loughborough, Northampton and Derby). The local Dance Champions will be working alongside professional dancers from the Games Time national team as well as choreographer Gary Clarke and Artistic Director Lea Anderson.



Games Time is a large scale Community Celebration Event which aims to bring the spirit of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games to the East Midlands. It is funded by the Legacy Trust UK and Arts Council England. For more information visit www.gamestime.org.uk .

Games Time is currently recruiting a Derby/shire cast for the Derby performance at Darley Park in September 2012. Places are filling up fast for the Derby/shire taster sessions, but if you sign up by 10 February you will be guaranteed a place.

Games Time is an outdoor spectacular theatre show that will be coming to Derby in September. It combines music, video, fireworks, professional dancers and 160 members of the local community. Created to embrace the spirit of the Olympic and Paralympic Games, Games Time made its debut to great acclaim in front of 10,000 spectators on the beach at Skegness in July 2011.



Games Time takes place on an oversized board-game brought to life by carnival costumes, projections, music, fireworks and You. You don’t need any performance experience to take part, just energy, enthusiasm, commitment and the desire for your team to win the game.

Flux is the annual inter-university Xing competition where teams of six students compete for a prize fund of £3,000. Participants meet successful entrepreneurs, network with top-class recruiters and enhance their CVs. Many of the employers who take part use the competition to identify potential future members of staff.
The Flux team will be given training and support from Career Development Centre staff and local entrepreneurs.

The University of Derby Career Development Centre seeks 20 second and third year career interns to explore how to use social media effectively for career development over a six week period during February and March 2012.

During the Internship you will:

receive training on how best to use social media for career development
have the opportunity to experiment with social media and explore how best to use it to your professional advantage
reflect on experiences and knowledge gained through the development of a blog
develop skills to be able to make best use of social media for career planning and to network effectively with key people, including future employers
locate vacancies and other opportunities aimed at undergraduate students
pass on what you have learnt to your other students to engage them in their own career development
for those who complete, receive a certificate of participation which will appear on your university transcript

Who can apply?

Any University of Derby second and third year student
No prior experience of social media required, just a willingness to develop your career and experiment with new ideas.
You will receive a training session in the use of social media for career planning and on going mentoring and support

Learn to draw the human figure from the live model using a combination of traditional and experimental drawing ideas. Explore line, form, tone and shape. Explore body, expression, gesture, movement, light to create figurative images. Experiment with different materials and techniques e.g. collage, inks, charcoal, colour, black and white etc. Learn how to create your own expressive work.

Opportunity to partcipate in Games Time - Derby - Sept.

Dear student,

I’m working on the recruitment for Games Time, an outdoor spectacular theatre show that will be coming to Derby in September. It will be a spectacular, live, outdoor stage show combining music, video, fireworks, professional dancers and 160 members of the local community.

We think this is a challenge you can rise up to and take part in. Participating in Games Time ensure that you will be part of celebrations for the London 2012 Olympic Games.

Being part of the Games Time show will be an exhilarating and rewarding experience – one that will enable you to significantly develop your CV. Games Time will also build your self-confidence, team skills, perseverance and strength. Through your involvement, you’ll gain work experience and understanding about how a professional, world-class show is staged.

You will work with professionals who are the top of the game: Lea Anderson, Walk The Plank and Mahogany. On Games Time, you’ll gain an understanding of how a major show is put together, and the different professional jobs within the artistic, operational and technical teams.



Games Time will be an adventurous and challenging new experience, and one that is close to home. You can sign up with your friends; this inter-generational opportunity is open to anyone over the age of 13.



It is free to take part: the professionally led workshops and costumes will all be provided.

This is a great opportunity to meet Sara Sanderson from Arts Council England and learn more about this funding scheme.



Arts Council England believes that great art inspires us, brings us together and teaches us about ourselves, and the world around us, in short, it makes life better. A grant for the arts is for time limited activities which help to deliver the Arts Council England mission, ‘Great art for everyone’.



Grants for the arts is a year round lottery fund for individual artists, arts organisations, museums, libraries and other organisations to deliver arts projects. The arts can be used to assist an organisation’s delivery on other agendas such as health and wellbeing urban regeneration, youth work etc.



Who can apply?



Grants to individuals – from £1,000 to £30,000
Grants to organisations – from £1,000 to £100,000. Arts organisations, museums, libraries, local authorities and other public organisations, partnerships, other voluntary/community groups whose normal activity is not related to the arts.
