Artist in Residence talk - Joseph Wright Collection

Synapse Arts ,Derby Museum and Art Gallery and University of Derby collaborative residency and Artist talk on Thursday 28 March from 1-2pm.

Hannah Shaw - Recent graduate and Artist in Residence and Lucy Bamford, Keeper of Art, will be giving a talk about this work in relation to the work of Joseph Wright in the gallery , Derby Museum and Art Gallery.

Hannah Shaw’s practice aims to explore how new social contexts and scientific discoveries redefine objects and aesthetics from the past. Her work consists of a series of objects that layer themes, found within the Joseph Wright Collection, with research into contemporary science. This reflects Hannah’s belief that objects become differently charged when viewed through new eyes and that change is inevitable, as new layers of meaning are added and the context is changed. It is this layering of ideas, as a way of reconciling the need to find order and logic within the complexities of their surroundings, which link the work of these two artists.

This is a collaboration between Derby Museums, Synapse Arts and the University of Derby.
