Who is advertising jobs on LinkedIn
LinkedIn announced this week a phenomenal set of results and the investment community got excited again. That’s all very well, but how does this make LinkedIn a more useful resource for those of us not fortunate enough to be in the exclusive investment club?

Whilst the main use for LinkedIn is as a business networking tool, the job-board part of the business is what is currently driving the growth. But who is advertising and what type of people are they looking for?

We ran an article 3 months ago illustrating precisely who LinkedIn will benefit, in terms of searching for job adverts. Deloitte, Microsoft, GE, Jaguar Land Rover, RBS and SAB Miller were the top advertisers, London by far the most popular location, IT and sales the most popular sectors and there were 5,500 jobs in total.

What does this look like 3 months on?

*7,090 jobs (a huge increase – expect this to keep going)
*Top advertisers are Microsoft (78), Deloitte (77), BP (76), Google (61), GE (57), SAB Miller (50), Jaguar LandRover (50), Axa (46), Skype (43)
*Top locations are London (2,431), Reading (328), Guildford (239), Slough (218), Twickenham (199), Bristol (124), Manchester (119)
*Top job functions are IT (1,532), Sales (1086), Engineering (796), Marketing (641), Consulting (516), Business Development (441), Management (415), Finance (361)
*Top industries are IT (1303), Software (766), Financial Services (644), Internet (401), Marketing and Advertising (386), Telecoms (358), Oil & Energy (308), Retail (307)

So, if you are targeting blue-chip companies in London and the South-East and are looking for a career in IT, sales, engineering, marketing or business development then the LinkedIn job-board is a very sensible place to start.

The figures taper off rapidly in the regions, just remember LinkedIn is a young business and the rate of growth is rapid, so keep an eye open on their job-board if you are looking for a professional role of any kind.
